Lawyer review websites are an important tool in your toolbelt when it comes to marketing your firm. Having the correct information on these review sites can also help bring more clients to your website, where they can find out more about you and your services. Read on for a basic overview and guide to navigating and utilizing these review websites.

The Most Common Lawyer Review Sites

While not a comprehensive list, here are some of the most common lawyer review sites:

Avvo.com | Avvo is a popular platform that provides the user with your resume, a method of communication directly to you, and allows for online reviews. This is a website potential clients will often go to read reviews and testimonials about your services. Even if you don’t think you have a profile on Avvo, odds are you actually do.

Make sure all of your information is filled out to show that you are active and attentive. Avvo also has its own rating system which is based on how you use the site, not necessarily on your expertise. This can be confusing for potential clients–so be sure to stay active and keep your score up.

Martindale.com | Home of the well-known AV ratings, Martindale.com’s reviews and rating system are based on a peer-review system, meaning you’re rated not by clients, but by other attorneys. Martindale.com also offers client reviews and ratings on its website. If you are an AV rated law firm, we can help you set up a badge on your site to display this.

Lawyers.com | A profile on Lawyers.com is fairly straightforward: it shows a rating (similar to Avvo’s), photo, location, firm name, and contact information. They provide an option to pay for a “premium” account, which will bring your account higher on search results. Lawyers.com is also connected to Martindale.com and Nolo.com–so setting up with any of the three will show your profile in the other two.

Findlaw.com | In addition to lawyer directories and profiles, Findlaw.com offers an extensive list of articles and guides around many areas of the law. They also provide Q&A forums where lawyers can answer questions sent in by users.

LegalMatch.com | LegalMatch.com is a bit different from the other lawyer directory/review sites. Instead of offering a directory for potential clients to search for lawyers, they provide services that match lawyers to clients. Depending on your location and practice area, the price will differ–but overall it’s significantly more expensive than most other services.

Update Your Information

One of the best ways you can utilize these services is to update your profile information. We’ll say it again for the folks in the back: update your profile information.

Depending on the website, there will be different elements you can update and customize, but for the most part, these attorney review sites will let you edit your profile picture, focus practice areas, and ways to contact you (such as an email, social media links, or a link to your website).

Double-check to make sure your information is consistent across all your profiles, as having different information can be confusing for potential clients.

Ask Your Clients and Colleagues to Leave Reviews

Directly asking current clients, previous clients, and colleagues to leave you reviews on these sites is an easy way to establish your credibility. For ideas on how you can go about asking for this, check out our blog here

Hire a law firm website company

Once you’ve set up your profiles, received reviews, and received any badges, Law Firm Sites can add the badge to your website to create linking opportunities. Linking between the two lawyer websites will create backlinks that are extremely helpful in your site’s SEO. If you have any questions about the process, don’t hesitate to contact us.
